Singing in the Rain

Singing in the Rain

The met office are telling us we are getting a month worth of rain of the next 24 hours, so here at Trophy Store we thought we’d have a bit of wet Friday fun and come up with a few weather related songs:

Rain – Madonna

The Queen of pop felt the rain on her finger tips washing away her sorrow in this song from her 1992 album Erotica.

The Rain Song - Led Zeppelin

Released in 1973 the song is over 7 minutes long, but still shorter than your average downpour!

I’m Only Happy When It Rains – Garbage

A not so cheery effort from 1995, title says it all!

Why Does It Always Rain On Me – Travis

In 1999 it was always raining on this band from Scotland, the band is also known for their cover of the Britney Spears song Baby One More Time.

Purple Rain – Prince

Whether (no pun intended) you know him as Squiggle, Sign or Prince this classic from 1984 was also the sound track to the film of the same name.

November Rain – Guns N’ Roses

A lengthy, near 9 minute long song from 1992 by this popular rock band, probably known more for Sweet Child o’ Mine and Paradise City.

It’s Raining Men - The Weather Girls

Written originally in 1979 but then recorded for release in 1982 by The Weather Girls. It has been covered a few times by other popular artists such as ex Spice girl Geri Halliwell in 2001

Rain – The Cult

Our second song titled simply ‘Rain’ in our list, from 1985….. They actually love the rain according to this song.

Umbrella – Rihanna

Ok, rain is not in the title, but this catchy number from 2007 had everyone singing ‘Ella ella, ay ay ay under my umbrella’ repeatedly, possibly because they were the only words they knew.

Singing In The Rain – Gene Kelly

A timeless classic; our reference is to the Gene Kelly 1952 film version but the song is originally from 1929, lyrics by Arthur Freed and music by Nacio Herb Brown, sung by Doris Eaton Travis in The Hollywood Music Box Revue. Many others have sung this one including Frank Sinatra. But who remembers the Paddington Bear version which parodies Gene Kelly’s dance moves from the movie?
